I see Gay Al's name is first. I wonder how they decided who got to be on top?

The Real and the Fake: Degree and Diploma Mills
by Alan Contreras and George Gollin
The recent release of a list of over 9,000 people who bought degrees from St. Regis “University” has helped bring into focus a problem that legitimate institutions like to ignore: An enormous number of people who could be getting real college credentials are buying degree- and diploma-mill ones instead. This causes damage that goes beyond the obvious one of unfair competition. Such degrees introduce counterfeit currency into the market and call into question the value of the genuine thing.
Degree Mills in the United States
Let’s begin our discussion of this problem with a detour into terminology. What are the differences between degree mills, diploma mills, and legitimate colleges?
The terms “diploma mill” and “degree mill” are often used interchangeably, but in fact most experts consider them to have different meanings:
• A degree mill provides a “real” degree from a fake college.
• A diploma mill provides a fake degree from a real college.
In other words, there are two snakes in the pit. In the first half of this article, I will focus on degree mills and their near neighbors, legally operating but unaccredited colleges; George Gollin will discuss international diploma mills in the next section.
What makes a degree valid
Under U.S. law, there are only three sources for the authority to issue college degrees: Congress, a sovereign Indian tribe, or a state government. Accreditation is voluntary, while approval from one of these sources is mandatory. (Note: Federal law requires that for its students to be eligible for federal financial aid, a school must have both state approval and accreditation; one cannot subsume the other. And state approval comes first. Because it is a mandatory prerequisite for accreditation, accreditors are required by federal law to obtain proof that colleges have state approval when they apply for accreditation, including renewals.)
Alan Contreras has served as the administrator of the Oregon Office of Degree Authorization (ODA), a unit of the Oregon Student Assistance Commission, since 1999. Prior to coming to ODA, he worked for the University of Oregon, the Oregon Community College Association, and the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education. He is a noted author of bird books, and his essays on education topics appear frequently in the Chronicle of Higher Education and Inside Higher Education. George Gollin is a professor of physics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research in experimental elementary particle physics focuses on the nature and origins of the equations that govern space, time, matter, and energy. His faculty service work concentrates primarily on problems in higher education quality assurance and accreditation. He was elected to the board of directors of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation in 2006.
In other words, there are two snakes in the pit.
Gay Al and Gollum do seem to have a keen sense of self-awareness, don't they?

"Two Snakes in the Pit"
I see they attempted to use the Levicoff degreemill/diplomamill distinction that almost everyone thinks is a bit of a hoot. Only they didn't get it right, not Levicoff right.
They just made it up as they went along, like all the rest of their "research."
Why would anyone collaborate knowingly and voluntarily with an adjudicated civil rights violator and admitted sexual deviant?

His research in experimental elementary particle physics focuses on the nature and origins of the equations that govern space, time, matter, and energy.
Uh?!
You mean like Gene Roddenberry, eh?
Apparently I could do the same to read the future from melting chicken sh!t.
I once watched an extensive debate between top physicists and the main argument was considering the other man's argument bunk.
Maybe Jules Verne had it right.
Why would anyone collaborate knowingly and voluntarily with an adjudicated civil rights violator and admitted sexual deviant?
Here is what federal judge John S. Rhoades, Sr., had to say about about Anal Contreras:
After a bench trial, the district court found that defendant Contreras had violated plaintiff's constitutional rights. Specifically, the district court concluded that defendant "Contreras' application of the regulations to plaintiff's degrees resulted not from an intent to achieve the goals of the regulations, but because of bias toward the institution from which they were received." That finding is not challenged on appeal....
http://caselaw.findlaw.com/data2/circs/9th/0335975P.pdf
That is, Contreras's bias was against Bob Jones University because of the university's Christian teachings and point of view. Contreras is nothing more than a religious bigot. Not only did the trial court rule that he is a religious bigot, the pervert didn't even bother to challenge that finding on appeal. So it's not just somebody's opinion, it's a proven, adjudicated fact: Contreras is a bigot who hates Christians.
So if George Gollin (George D. Gollin, George Dana Gollin) has his choice and decides to voluntarily associate with such a bigot, one can only conclude it is because Gollin is not the least bit offended by such bigotry, and in all likelihood shares his anti-Christian bias.
Now I know there are some misguided or disengenuous people who would like us to believe that cocksuckers and ass pirates like Conteras are just engaging in some sort of "alternative lifestyle," and not acting in any way contrary to the laws of God, nature or common sense and decency. On the other hand, I'm not aware of anyone who says that intentionally violating people's civil rights on the grounds of religious hatred is some sort of "alternative belief-style." It is considered a vile and vicious act worthy of a filthy Nazi or Saracen, not a civilized person and certainly not someone entrusted with enforcing the law and paid with public tax dollars.
So whatever affinity Gollin has for Contreras because of Contreras's deviant sexuality--either because of Gollin's perverted lesbian daughter or perhaps Gollin's own closeted deviance, if any--ought to be irrelevant to him in the face of Contreras's unabashed, unapologetic religious bigotry. So I agree, the fact that Gollin chooses to team up with such a scumbag as Contreras shows that Gollin himself is a scumbag too. If you are judged by the company you keep, it seems only fair and fitting that George Gollin (George D. Gollin, George Dana Gollin) should be regarded as a slimy, anti-Christian bigot.
The next questions are why any public tax supported university would want to employ a slimy, anti-Christian bigot, and why a quasi-public agency like CHEA would care to have a slimy, anti-Christian bigot on its board of directors? For that matter, why is the slimy, anti-Christian bigot Alan Contreras still employed by the State of Oregon? It's about time somebody took a hard look at these two animals.
Why would anyone collaborate knowingly and voluntarily with an adjudicated civil rights violator and admitted sexual deviant?
Maybe they first met in a (toilet) room at Yale (Princeton, whatever of that elitist crap )?
No, they "met" on a crummy website owned & operated by gay teen pornographer Thomas Chip White (owner of degreeinfo), the famous "health specialist" (with no known university degree) advocating coffee enemas as a treatment for cancer.
Well, maybe good old Chip owns a few shares of some adult business...wrong... Thomas Chip White personally scouts "talents", films them while they cram kitchenware up their love hole AND peddles his huge list of gay teen porn DVDs in very graphic terms on queer boards...just in time to post some morally adamant remark about the moral compass of an idiot who bought three doctorates from his mentor, worldwide learning authority John Bear, and once owner/promoter/head of a string of "schools" he now calls degree mills.
Tax breaks for the wealthy, lies about weapons of mass destruction and the sources of support for terrorism in order to invade Iraq, ignorance of the support for terrorism coming from Saudi Arabia due to friendships with members of the royal family, the rolling back of environmental protection laws, opposition to a woman's freedom of reproductive choice, policies that increase the number of Americans without health insurance. That's a funny joke too. He'll send our kids to die in foreign lands in order to support his buddies' desires to seize oil fields. His thugs go after politicians who got themselves shot up in Viet Nam, daring to criticize their service records while he (and his cronies) stayed home getting drunk.
I thought university teachers were not exactly "poor"...
For the rest, I am afraid he's right...the degreeinfo/degreediscussion clique is made of self-important clowns, but they are NOT the only ones.
today was ash wednesday and like everyother ash wednesday i forget that it is a special wednesday and the first catholic i see is always a surprise. for some reason i dont remember seeing people with ash on their forehead until i came to uni
That a family with Jews in it poke fun at ANY religion's practice is just unbelievable.
That a family with Jews in it poke fun at ANY religion's practice is just unbelievable.
If "Saint Regis" had been called something like "Yeshiva Western" do you think Gollum would have looked twice?
I'm told SRU actually donated quite a bit of money to legit Christian charities in Africa. That's a two-fer on Gollum's shit list, blacks and Christians. If they were giving money to the Mossad or the Communist Workers Party would he have been as interested?
Running a degree mill and looking for a name that Gollin will support? Try Gay Anti-Christian Marxist University. Or as some people call it, Oberlin College.
Ann Coulter must read this board. Since tax money goes to UIUC and the State of Oregon, why doesn't our Great Leader fire the two slimy, anti-Christian bigots, just like he did GM's CEO? Or at least these two particular slimy anti-Christian bigots.
Here's what she wrote today about Gollin's alma mater, Princeton, or as it's otherwise known, the Dumbass Factory:
Nearly every university in the country accepts government money. Is there any industry in America more in need of some "restructuring" than academia? What's Berkeley's "business plan" to stop turning out graduates who hate America?
And what is Obama's justification for keeping Shirley M. Tilghman as president of Princeton University as long as Princeton employs prominent crackpot Peter Singer?
Singer, the Ira W. DeCamp Professor of Bioethics at Princeton's Center for Human Values, believes parents should have the right to kill newborn babies with birth defects, such as Down syndrome and hemophilia, and says there is nothing morally wrong with parents conceiving children in order to harvest them for spare parts for an older child -- or even for society to breed children on a massive scale for spare parts.
His views on these issues are so extreme I'm surprised Singer hasn't been offered a position in the Obama cabinet yet. Perhaps he paid his taxes and was disqualified.
Singer compares the black liberation movement to the liberation of apes, saying we must "extend to other species the basic principle of equality that most of us recognize should be extended to all members of our own species." (Imagine if Rush Limbaugh had said that and then go lie down for 20 minutes.)
The esteemed professor Singer also believes sex with animals is acceptable and has no objections to necrophilia -- provided the deceased gave consent when still alive. We're still waiting to hear his views on sex with dead animals. Especially me, as I have no plans for next weekend.
Doesn't a "new vision" for Princeton -- which benefits from massive taxpayer subsidies in the form of student loans and government grants -- require firing the president of Princeton? That university is clearly teetering on the brink of moral bankruptcy.

prominent crackpot Peter Singer?
Self-proclaimed Jew Peter Singer is one of the most influential applied ethics scholars. Of course you don't get that high without "proper connections".
What is less known, and surprised me:
http://www.secularhumanism.org/index.php...itors_29_1
Secular humanism (or "rational inquiry" ) should be the inquiring, rational atheism in charge of debunking traditional religions & their myths, which I am ALL for.
To promote secular humanist principles to the public, media, and policy-makers
To provide secular humanist activities and communities to serve the needs of nonreligious people and foster human enrichment
To demonstrate the viability of the secular humanist eupraxophy as an alternative naturalistic life-stance
To engage in research relating to the critical examination of religious and supernatural claims and the humanist outlook
To conduct educational programs for all age levels
In reality -as the above article shows beyond any doubt- it is all a colossal carnival to act as vehicle for good old Marxism and its dog & pony show and slogans, which has nothing in common with non-marxist socialism (non-marxist socialism for example won't champion the rights of illegal aliens and parasitic minorities; non-marxist socialism will not advocate "changing the world" to fit the vision of social alchemists; non-marxist socialism won't associate with gay rights, green activism, animalism and all the new age claptrap... ); Marxism is just another recipe for the typical millenarian Jewish apocalypse substituting the faithful with proletarians; Israel with those down in the chain of production and the plot of sin and devils with capitalism, in the hope that the day of judgment will see wrong things made right.

Here Singer re-invents himself and -divine surprise!- the only book he openly talks about is seemingly a ripoff of Anne Frank's diary he has written...
Singer compares the black liberation movement to the liberation of apes, saying we must "extend to other species the basic principle of equality that most of us recognize should be extended to all members of our own species." (Imagine if Rush Limbaugh had said that and then go lie down for 20 minutes.)
I always say that ANY liberationist movement literally copies -and is thus the fecal byproduct- of abolitionism of yore...the same speeches can be adapted (changing a few buzz words at best ) to serve queer rights, animal rights, serial killers' rights, women rights...
Scholarly paper ahead:
http://lodel.ehess.fr/crh/docannexe.php?id=962
The animal rights/welfare movement paints a chilling picture of helpless creatures
caught in the machinery of agriculture’s industrialization, victims of a relentless economic
revolution that results in ever-worsening confinement conditions in pursuit of the
cheapest production costs. Corporate owners defend against cries for government control
by invoking free market principles and fears of economic disaster due to foreign competition.
The animals themselves, of course, have no voice in the political machinery that
will decide their fate and must rely instead on others to make their case by proxy, reformers
typically motivated by ideology rather than economic self-interest.
We have been down this road before. As the above excerpts starkly remind us,
the last wave of industrialization resulted in the increasing abuse of another powerless
group – children. In mid-1800s Britain, many thousands of pre-teen children worked at
hard labor in factories, mills, and coal mines. Even younger children were not spared. In
1851, census figures showed that 49,000 British children between the ages of 5 and 9
were employed. As historian E.P. Thompson (1968 p. 384) put it, “the exploitation of
little children [during the Industrial Revolution] was one of the most shameful events of
our history.”
While the comparison between child labor during the Industrial Revolution and
animal welfare issues in the Agricultural Revolution is not perfect, there are many similarities,
which makes an examination of the history of child labor reform instructive.
Both groups are powerless, in the sense of having no direct access to the political system.
